A true masterpiece and homage to the brand’s Japanese influences, the MIJ15 "Intangible Cultural Treasure" Selvedge Denim combines two traditional dyeing techniques: world renown Tokushima natural indigo and kakishibu persimmon dye. Made using indigo plants grown in Japan, Tokushima’s centuries-old hand-dyeing process yields a deep-rich hue so rare it's recognizes as a national cultural treasure. The weft is dyed with kakishibu—a fermented Japanese persimmon dye that takes over two years to produce—yielding a warm amber-brown tone.
Woven in Japan on vintage shuttle-looms with heavy slub yarns, the denim showcases rich texture and interplay between the two dyes. Each pair undergoes a traditional tempi wash: a cold-water soak followed by natural sun-drying to remove shrinkage and bring out character. Finished with signature Made in Japan Series details including iron buttons, copper rivets, and a glazed Japanese sheepskin leather patch.
